Primary Attribute

Hero Backstory:
A mysterious figure shrouded by darkness. The Night Hunter is indistinguishable from the normal man during the day, but as night falls, his true colors show. Hunt while you can in the light, but beware the darkness of night.

  • Define Your Heroes Base Attack
Base Attack Type
Base Attack Notes:
Night Hunter has his standard 128 melee range. His base attack is 22 - 32 damage (+23 AGI) = 45 - 55 damage. He swings his black sword at enemies in slashing and stabbing motions.

The starting items are your run of the mill starters. STR for survivability, regen consumables, and good boots. Steamboots are chosen because of the attribute bonus as well as the fact that the third skill will give you plenty of movespeed. You could go ghostmarchers if you really wanted to go super fast, though it would be redundant if you got frostburn as well.

Midgame has some situational items and some no brainers. Abyssal Skull is an amazing item because it gives him even more lifesteal and allows you to stack the abyssal lifesteal with even more essentially giving him up to 57% lifesteal if you went lifesteal build (+16% from Skill 3 at night...only +5% during the day, +16% from abyssal, and +25% from Symbol of Rage; This is indeed ridiculous, but keep in mind that this requires 8,200 gold to pull off and that's not including boots, starting items, etc that you need to live long enough to actually get those items). Staff of the Master is a good item, gives him some very badly needed STR and INT as well as buffing his ultimate nicely. Shrunken Head is there for those times when you're fighting disable heavy teams. Your second skill will let you take out one of them at least, but in the even there are more, there's shrunken. Runed Axe is there if you want a bit more regen, some splash, or really need the mana. It could really help you farm or get some team presence going.

Lategame Items are going down different paths. I would see Charged Hammer, Demonic Breastplate, Brutalizer, Shieldbreaker, Riftshards, boots as a good route that would give huge attack speed bonuses, armor reduction, crits, armor and bash... it would be very nice on him. Boots, Abyssal Skull, Symbol of Rage, Wingbow, Demonic Breastplate, and SotM would be another nice build that would be favoring survivability. It would give huge lifesteal, evasion to stack with the miss chance of your 2nd skill, armor, a boosted ult, an armor reduction, and some very nice damage and attack speed. Frostburn would be another good item that can be used for a more hunting role and would be great paired up with SotM (so you can hunt, have another slow, have even more movespeed boost, and have unobstructed vision while hunting).
  • Hero Roles
Primary Role
Secondary Role
Role Notes:
Night Hunter is a semi-port of Night Stalker. There weren't any 1:1 ports on his skills, but many of the skills are similar in theory, application, or operation. He is meant to be a gnarly ganker/semi/hard carry at night. He's got great attackspeed and damage scaling as well as impressive everything at night. His day version is not all that hot though. Most of his skills are weakened or non-existant during the day which is a major drawback. His ult fixes that though and lets him be gnarly when he needs to be. I think he would be loads of fun to play, a bit of a pain to fight (but most characters are in their own ways), and a great addition to the game.

Shadow Charge:
- Shadow Charge is his distance closing/escape move. He can use this to get in attack range for his second skill while doing good AoE crit damage. When at night, the first skill becomes a blink instead of a dash which makes it even better for escape and initiation. The damage also increases at night.
Hunter's Blade: - This is a move specialized in taking down a single target in 1v1 combat. He silences, gives them a miss chance (which stacks with evasion), and slows them. When at night, this is incredibly powerful and crippling which makes him a bad person to be ganked by.
Nocturnal Enhancement: - Nocturnal Enhancement makes Night Hunter one of the scariest people in the game...but only at night which is only half of the time (and everyone knows when he's buff)...It gives him buffs of many kinds including a new form of semi-invisibility. He's not invis as the game defines it, but he is very hard to see. So it's like he's almost invis. Regardless he'll mess people up at night.
Midnight: - Now this is the kicker. You remember how all those other skills made him an instant bad @$$ the second it became night? Basically increasing the power of his skills in terms of speed, power, and buffing himself immensely. His ultimate makes it night. Which means...good bye... As an added bonus, this skill takes off where Nocturnal Enhancement left off. It makes Night Hunter even harder to see at night. Once level 16 is reached, the only thing you'll see of Night Hunter at night is a light shadow.

His allies are intelligence givers and invis heroes like scout. Scout's electric eyes can give Night Hunter good targets and because they're both fast and difficult to see heroes, they can both ambush a lone hero with devastating results. Just imagine being silenced, disarmed, and slowed (Shadow Charge + Scout Disarm + Hunter's Blade). Ouch... Glacius is another good ally as he can give mana to allow for much more frequent casting on Night Hunter's part. The slow and the immobilize is also a great combo with Night Hunter's second skill. Slither is yet another great team pick. Especially if he gets assassin's shroud. Slither is there for the massive DoTs he gives as well as his immense slows (his poison spurt and the slow his wards give). His wards also give good intel to help Night Hunter get targets faster. Another ally that is worth mentioning is Keeper of the Forest. His eyes would help alot as well as his support and disabling skills. They could work together quite well.

Night Hunter's enemies are people who can find him more easily than normal. Imagine being Moon Queen and seeing your projectile bounce to thin air then to another enemy. Dead give away much? Also her ult won't be stopped by Night Hunter's opacity so it can also locate him quite easily. Swiftblade is there for his counter, his spin, and his ult. Swiftblade's spin will still do massive damage and can hit regardless of invis or opacity. Swift's counter is one of the bigger issues as it will make killing him much more painful than killing most other heroes. Swiftblade's ult will also hit him even if he is at 0% opacity which allows SB to scout him easier and finish just as easily. Blood Hunter could really mess Night Hunter up. Blood Hunter's silence could stop Night Hunter from using Hunter's Blade (though at the higher levels that would be bad as BH would be giving Night Hunter a +80% base damage boost while silencing him). And BH's blood sense would make Night Hunter's opacity useless and allow him to be followed no matter where he goes. Another counter I didn't put in is Soul Reaper. The main two reasons he's a counter is because SR's aura would show Night Hunter even if he's opaque and SR's ult is a carry killer and can do massive damage if Night Hunter is low on hp.
  • Hero Abilities
Ability 1 Name
Shadow Charge
Ability 1 Action Type
Target - Ground
Ability 1 Notes:
Night Hunter charges toward an enemy, damaging everything is his path. When his power grows, he will dash so quickly it appears to be a blink.

Activation: [Q]
Target: Ground
Type: Magic
Manacost: 80/90/100/110
Cooldown: 8 seconds
Range: 700/850/1000/1150

-During the day, Night hunter dashes to the targeted ground. Deals a 1.9x/2.0x/2.1x/2.2x crit, a 25%/30%/35%/40% slow, and a 0.01 second ministun in a 200 unit radius. All enemies in between his starting position and his target ground within 150 units on both sides take a 1.5x/1.6x/1.7x/1.8x crit and a 10%/15%/20%/25% slow. The slow lasts for 2 seconds. You cannot dash over cliffs, if you select ground on the other side of a cliff, you will dash around.

-During the night, Night hunter blinks to the targeted ground. Deals a 2.2x/2.2x/2.4x/2.5x crit, a 40%/45%/50%/55% slow, and a 0.01 second ministun in a 250 unit radius. All enemies in between his starting position and his target enemy within 200 units on both sides take a 1.8x/1.9x/2.0x/2.1x crit and a 25%/30%/35%/40% slow. The slow lasts for 4 seconds.

Notes: This is a dash during the day and a blink by night. Obviously the blink is better. Though the targeting is basically the same (target ground takes max damage, all enemies between his starting spot and the target ground take smaller damage). The damage output is slightly increased and the slow is greatly increased at night. The role of this skill is to either... a)get in attacking range b)get in range to use your second skill c)initiate... He could do well at all 3 and he'd do even better at night. Though it is advised that you have him as the second person in on an initiation (or have him promptly followed up by someone like krakken, magmus, or tempest; Night Hunter's slow will make them an easier target for their ults).
Ability 2 Name
Hunter's Blade
Ability 2 Action Type
Target - Self
Ability 2 Notes:
Night Hunter's enchanted sword causes terror in the hearts of his foes when he slashes them, making him an even more deadly threat.

Activation: [W]
Target: Self
Type: Magic
Manacost: 75
Cooldown: 12 Seconds
Cast Time: Instant

Applies Hunter's Blade buff to self for 5/6/7/8 seconds. While Hunter's Blade buff is on Night Hunter, when he attacks an enemy, Crippling Fear Debuff is applied to the enemy.

Crippling Fear Effects: Enemy afflicted has a 10%/20%/30%/40% chance to miss their auto attacks, is slowed by 4%/8%/12%/16% and silenced for 4 seconds. This effect does not stack on itself, hitting the target again will only refresh the debuff.

-During the day, Hunter's Blade buff only lasts for 3 seconds. Crippling Fear applies a 10% miss chance and silence for 4 seconds.

Notes: Hunter's Blade is a very deadly 1v1 skill. It silences to take out the casters, gives the target a miss debuff to mess with people who rely on auto attacks for damage, and slows to prevent escape. The miss debuff stacks with evasion making wingbow an excellent item on Night Hunter. Though carries may buy savage mace to counter the effects of the evasion/miss chance, it is not a viable option on many casters or tanks. Also the effect is greater and the duration is longer at night, making this another scary night time move.
Ability 3 Name
Nocturnal Enhancement
Ability 3 Action Type
Ability 3 Notes:
Night Hunter's full powers appear at night. He uses his true form to tear through enemies.

10%/15%/20%/25% movement speed boost, 10%/20%/30%/40% attack speed, 10%/12%/14%/16% lifesteal, and 100%/75%/50%/25% opacity at night. Opacity means he's harder to see to the human eye. He can still be targeted and attacked. At night, he is the lowest priority to attack in the AI autoattacking scripts. At night, his shadow is at 25% opacity and his health/mana bar and the effects of allied skills are invisible if he hasn't taken damage in the last 3 seconds. Lifesteal gained through this skill is not an orb effect.

-During the day, he gains 5% lifesteal at all levels. Lifesteal gained through this skill is not an orb effect. No other effects from the skill are active during the day.

Notes: This gives him 10% less move speed than Night Stalker (from DotA) and 30% less attack speed. In exchange I gave him lifesteal and opacity. To clarify, 50% opacity is 1/2 invisible, 25% opacity is 3/4ths invisible. So he gets harder and harder to see at night. Also if he has his ultimate, he gains additional opacity reduction at night. Once he is at 0% opacity (totally "clear"; clear as in see through), he will essentially be invisible (except for his shadow). However, he will not be revealed with a bound eye or if he attacks and he can be attacked while "clear". The health/mana bar will show if he takes damage, letting people track him down a bit better if he's fleeing. Also the effects of allied skills will be invisible if he hasn't been attacked recently making him a tad harder to spot. So if his health bar is showing, allied cast effects are shown as well. Watch out when it's night!
Ability 4 Name
Ability 4 Action Type
Self Position
Ability 4 Notes:
Night Hunter calls upon the powers of darkness causing the day to turn to night for a time.

Grants Night Hunter an additional 15%/20%/25% opacity during the night.

Activation: [R]
Target: Self Position
Type: Magic
Mana Cost: N/A
Cooldown: 180/150/120 seconds
Cast Time: Instant

Level 1 - Turns day into night for 20 seconds.
Level 2 - Turns day into night for 40 seconds.
Level 3 - Turns day into night for 60 seconds.

This skill pauses the current time, so if it's cast at night it prolongs it.

Staff of the Master: Night Hunter will get unobstructed vision at night, meaning that trees and terrain will not block his vision. It extends the length of his ultimate by 10 seconds on all levels. In contrast to how Staff of the Master usually works with other heroes, this improvement has another effect than enhancing his ultimate (Midnight), and is active all the time as well during the night.

Notes: I nerfed the ult time. It used to go 25/50/80 seconds, so I clipped 20 seconds off the last bit in exchange for additional opacity boost. I put 10 seconds back on SotM. The mana cost and cooldown stayed the same as Night Stalker (from DotA). Though the SotM effect was buffed from that of Night Stalker's. Night Stalker had more incentive to buy SotM because he was a STR hero and SotM gave good str which gave hp, regen and also damage to Night Stalker. Because SotM doesn't give damage to Night Hunter, the extra boost makes it more worth it. So this skill has glaringly obvious synergy with all his other skills as it makes him an instant bad @$$ and can change almost any situation.

Basically just port Night Stalker :/
Posted 293 days ago
idk, but seems like a 4sec silence, with a 8sec duration would be abit.. idk op? if you hit someone at the last second the buff wears off, you will be able to buff it up again just as the enemy finishes being silenced, and then just hit again and this target is now silenced forever till their either die or gets help.

els i actually love this hero :) looks amazing and some nice thinking!

Heroes are supposed to be creative and original, and while you've got some good ideas, the ports from DotA are not hard to spot. Good ideas, but not original enough.
